Careers
Our theme āLiving in the Wider Worldā and enrichment curriculum encompasses careers, where we cover āDreams and Goalsā, which aims to help learnersĀ to start to think about their hopes and dreams, their goals for success, what their personal strengths are, and how to overcome challenges.
At The Rowan School we explore Careers and future goals from an early age, we ensure all learners have opportunities throughout the year, so they can explore a variety of future career prospects.
We experience multiple career talks from individuals from numerous sectors outside of education through a collated video recording that is shared as part of an assembly for our learners. We invite external agencies into school to talk and share their experiences with our learners, such as the fire service, which the children thoroughly enjoy.
Learners also enjoy experiencing different career opportunities through educational trips and visits, such as the Zoo, Museum and Library. These experiences develop further understanding of particular careers and contribute to seeing these careers in action.
We offer all learners the Junior Duke of Edinburgh Award, this supports learners to gain an understanding of the basic life and practical skills needed to achieve success beyond academic and sporting abilities. It is designed to develop the independent skills and thoughts needed for the world of work, life and the wider community.
At The Rowan School, learners are given the opportunity each year to celebrate their idea of career prospects through a Careers Day we call, āMake Your Dreams Come Trueā. On this day, learners dress up in clothes representing their chosen career, research the skills needed for that job, and share their ideas with each other.
